Because the feedback was so positive last year, our annual SEM PCA Holiday Party was again held at the clubhouse of The Heathers of Bloomfield Hills. The Heathers is a condo complex and they have one serious club house. It’s an impressive two story building that looks even better when decked out for the holidays. It’s deep in the complex and not visible from nearby Square Lake Road. However, a good GPS unit can direct you there easily. The proximity to I-75, Woodward, Telegraph and even M-59 makes the location readily accessible to most.
Once again, past-President Dave Miller and his lovely wife Deb were the event chairs. During the cocktail hour guests had an opportunity to get caught up with friends – and to bid on the wide range of artwork, clothing, books and accessories up for bid in the silent auction.
Our own Garen Nicoghosian, a designer at Ford and an accomplished artist in his own right created a masterful piece of Porsche artwork for the silent auction. This year is was a striking depiction of the #20 Gulf Porsche 917. I would have made a serious run at it, but Catherine does not object to the Neiman serigraph of the 24 Hours of LeMans that currently dominates our family room – so pressing my luck further seemed ill advised.
When the bidding was done and the auction was closed, Club President Jeff Amos announced that the auction had raised $ 1,900 for this year’s charity, Leader Dogs for the Blind. All those who participated in the auction deserve a sincere thank you. The Board also authorized an additional donation of $ 1,000, so leader Dogs will receive a significant contribution from SEM/ PCA.
Dave and Deb again arranged to have a running collage of memorable photos of people and cars from the past year. At this time of year, summer is only a memory, but the photos of past fun remind us that we can look ahead to an enjoyable driving season again in the spring.
The fifty eight people in attendance included several distinguished guests from our “extended Porsche family” — PCA Zone 4 Rep Ron Carr, Wayne Youngblood, General Manager of Porsche of the Motor City and his wife, Belinda and Roger DeLiso, the Graphic Designer who creates the P4 each month for Copyrite Printing. Thank you all for joining our annual year end celebration.
After a delightful dinner of filet mignon and poached salmon, DE Co-Chair Steve Carbary and Instructor/ Board Member Mark Molzon conducted a raffle for people who were interested in trying DE for the first time.
Then Jeff called up the past presidents who were in attendance – Jerry Door, Patti Door, Ted Dunham, Dave Miller and Leo Wanstreet — to present the Jack Kaminska Award to our Enthusiast of the Year. Club Secretary Lanita Dunham was the surprised – but richly deserving – recipient. Lanita and her husband Ted Dunham have a long history of service to SEM/ PCA. In addition to helping out wherever necessary and her long service as Secretary, Lanita also ran the Fall Color Tour this year. Congratulations Lanita and thank you for all you do for our club and its members!
Pictures are indeed worth the proverbial thousand words, so we hope you’ll enjoy the photos that accompany this story . . . and plan to join us next year. Better yet, volunteer to help run the event next time. We can assure you that you will have plenty of help and guidance.
