First, you saw photos of the all new Porsche 911 Carrera from the Frankfurt Auto Show, last fall. Then perhaps, you saw the car at the Detroit Auto Show – and if you were lucky, at the Porsche VIP Preview of the new Cabrio model. Finally, in February, it was time to launch the latest generation of Porsche’s most iconic – and important – car line with “coming out parties” at local dealerships.
Porsche dealers held gala introduction events to present the seventh generation Carrera to their customers and prospects – including members of SEM/PCA who are not only owners and prospects – but also key “influencers” of people looking to purchase a top end sorts car.
Dealers held these events to afford their guests a more personal and less crowded way to become more familiar with the new Carrera. Invited guests had the opportunity to see, sit in and in some cases, test drive the new Porsche’s Carrera – also known as the “991.” Dealership staff – who had already completed the training program on the new 991– were on hand to answer questions and spend quality time with prospects.
Porsche of the Motor City had a marvelous display of all of the previous generations of the 911 in their showroom. The red 996 – which has won numerous parade Concours events – was provided by our own Fred and Kathy Young while the silver 993 belonged to SEM/ PCA member Ray Massa.
Additionally, Porsche of the Motor City had three representatives from Porsche in attendance – Cass Whitehead, head instructor of the Porsche driving school and a professional racer, as well as Kirt Shore and Jason Locke, key members of Porsche Cars North America who answered technical questions for guests.
The dealership events were absolutely first class – and in keeping with the first class reputation enjoyed by Porsche. Guests were treated to good food, drink and door prizes. Porsche of Farmington Hills entertained their guests with a fabulous buffet, including German and other fare – with music provided by an authentic German band.
As expected, all of the dealerships had excellent turnouts and guests were universally impressed with and excited about the newest 911. This quickly translated into business. One dealer reported having ten orders for the new Carrera with a week after of their launch event.
If you have not yet seen the new Carrera, do yourself a favor and stop by any of our four local Porsche dealers. You’ll see that, once again, “There is no substitute!”
