Southeast Michigan – 2023 Spring Tour
The 2023 driving season is finally upon us. Despite Michigan DOTs best effort to hamper any driving enjoyment this year, the Southeast Michigan PCA Spring Tour was a well-attended success! A record 77 cars turned out for an excellent season opening spring drive. Even though it rained in the morning the weather cleared up and gave us a partly cloudy afternoon (is Lucas’s curse finally being lifted?).
Our starting location was at Munk’s Motors in Waterford. Registration opened at 2PM and the first car out was at 3:30PM. Attendees were able to walk through the shop and around the grounds to appreciate all of the beautiful vehicles in attendance and boy were there a lot of Porsches. The turnout was so large that we ran out of space to park cars.
Even with the “every road you turn on has construction” happening this year we were able to put together an enjoyable albeit challenging route. The route this year took us around several lakes and under plenty of newly bloomed trees. It was the first real nice weather day of spring and a lot of people were out for a Sunday afternoon drive including us.
We traversed several towns including West Bloomfield, Walled Lake, Novi and Northville. There were several great views across lakes and down tree covered roads. It was also a bit of an architectural tour as we passed many nice houses along the lakes. The roads themselves were a bit of a mix. There were several twisty roads, roundabouts and cruising along the lakes. We were able to bypass active construction cones, however construction traffic and random rough patches added a challenge to the drive.
Dinner was held at Granite City Food and Brewery off of 7 Mile in Northville. We had a private room for our group and we filled every inch to accommodate as many participants as possible. The food was great and the company was even better. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and made this another very successful event!
A special thanks to Lucas Phan, Howard Gilson, Jeff Boes, Bobby Tarchinski, Dan Conrad, Roger Tayloe, Kyle Bohr and Jim Williams who all helped make this event possible.
P.S. For anyone wondering why there was a random Blue Subaru WRX STi in the mix and leading Group 7, that was me. My 2018 718 Cayman was totaled by an 8 point buck last November. Its replacement will be here this summer and I look forward to bringing it to our future events.
